Multimillion Dollar Yacht Runs Aground- Falmouth, MA (08-05-11)
FALMOUTH — An 85-foot yacht called “Cocktails” ran aground this afternoon on the rocks near Nobska Beach in Woods Hole, according to the United States Coast Guard. The Miami-based motor yacht hit a rock around 1 pm, causing the ship to run aground and creating a 4-by-20-foot hole in the yacht’s bow, Coast Guard Petty Officer Ann Marie Gorden said. Coast Guard crews from Station Woods Hole and a boat from Sea Tow, a private company that specializes in marine assistance, responded to the crash. The two people on board were not injured, Gorden said, and no pollution was reported from gasoline leaks. The yacht was towed to Falmouth Harbor Marina for repairs, she said. It is unclear whether charges will be filed against the yacht’s driver because the Coast Guard is still investigating how the crash occurred, Gorden said. “Cocktails” sleeps eight people and “boasts an attentive and professional crew of four,” according to the website of Super Yachts, which owns the craft (www.superyachts.com). The boat rents for between 500 and 500 during the summer, according to Super Yachts. capecodonline.com
